    The dynamical system defined by the \(2\pi\)-periodic Hamiltonian \(H=p^ 2+x^ q+\beta x \cos t,\) is investigated. The parameter \(\beta\) plays the role of ``a measure of non-integrability''. The structure of phase space is investigated in a large range of the parameter \(\beta\). A partition of the phase space into a regular and a stochastic region is observed, as well as the intrusion of the resonances (with different winding numbers) into the stochastic region. The dynamics of the system is studied by the iterations of the corresponding monodromy map and likewise by studying an appropriate higher-dimensional autonomous system. The paper contains interesting numerically obtained bifurcation phenomena.
