The authors propose a stochastic carcinogenesis model that describes mutational changes at the DNA adduct level. The model incorporates cell division, cell death, DNA adduct formation, repair and misrepair. ODE systems for the first-order and the second-order cumulants are derived. A Poisson approximation is presented which allows for a much easier treatment of the model. A method for numerical calculation of the survival function is shown, where survival is defined here as absence of tumor cells. This method is used to investigate the number of dose response relationships for different parameters of the model, trying to mimic the action of chemical substances on birth and death rates and on the repair capacity of the cells.
