A new fourth-order-compact difference method is proposed to solve numerically the steady Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the velocity components and the pressure field in regions with complex geometries. The numerical algorithm rests upon a transformation of the physical region onto a rectangle by means of the boundary-fitted coordinates transformation method and the discretization of velocity components and pressure field at the same grid points. Standard problems as Poiseuille and Couette flows and the square cavity problem are solved. The numerical results compare well with other techniques. A global convergence analysis yields the order of convergence rates depending on the smoothness of the boundary data.
