Let X be a compact metric space and \(K_ n\) (n\(\in N)\), K be nonempty closed subsets of X with lim sup \(K_ n\subset K\). The main results of the paper characterize the Hausdorff (or Kuratowski) convergence of \((K_ n)\) to K by using selections of the sets \(M_ f(K_ n)=\{x\in K_ n|\) \(f(x)=\min f(K_ n)\}\). Applications to systems of inequalities, semi-infinite programming, nonconvex optimization and discrete infinite horizon optimization are given.
