Extending nonfuzzy structures to fuzzy sets, the author uses a duality principle based on the notion of an inverse image under a fuzzy correspondence. This principle is used to introduce indistinguishability relations via the identity relation, to characterize similarity relations and the well-known extension principle of L. A. Zadeh. Fuzzy operations on different types of fuzzy numbers are also considered in terms of this duality principle.
