Let us consider the hyperbolic conservation law \[ \partial_t u+\partial_xf(u)=0,\quad x\in \mathbb{R},\;t>0,\tag{1} \] subjected to the initial condition \(u(x,0)=u_0(x)\), with \(u_0\) measurable and bounded, let \(\tau>0\) and \(a>0\) and let \[ \partial_tu^{\tau}+\partial_xv^{\tau}=0,\quad \partial_tv^{\tau}+a^2\partial_xu^{\tau}= \tau^{-1}\left(f(u^{\tau})-v^{\tau}\right),\tag{2} \] the semilinear relaxation of \((1)\). Under the hypotheses of the existence of convex positively invariant domains, that of genuine nonlinearity and the subcharacteristic condition, the author proves that the approximate solutions of \((2)\), subjected to a suitable initial condition, converge to an entropy solution of \((1)\).
