This is an interesting publication dealing with the problem of multimaterial flows. While treating all materials as compressible in any unsteady flows, the authors propose a correction of the Godunov-type methods for Riemann problem to accurately describe the contact discontinuity. This correction is based upon a simple idea: knowledge from the exact solution or accurate solution of the Riemann problem is employed to correct the two nodes across the contact discontinuity affected by numerical diffusion. Although this is only possible for the case of one-dimensional problem, where the exact solution of the Riemann problem is available, extension to two-dimensional problems can be accomplished by employing this procedure in the direction locally normal to the contact discontinuity. The method is proved to be successful for problems involving a gas-liquid interface, where the liquid obeys the equation of state of a stiffened gas. Several other two-dimensional problems are presented and tested, for which the method provides accurate solutions.
