Motivated by a gauged nonlinear Schrödinger equation in two spatial dimensions, with Chern-Simons term, the authors are led to consider an elliptic problem with a nonlocal defocusing term and a local focusing nonlinearity. For this problem they study solutions in a ball of radius \(R\) with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. Existence of positive solutions for sufficiently large \(R\) is shown. These solutions are located close to the boundary and the limit profile is given. The proof uses a singular perturbation method based on a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction. However, the problem in question has certain new aspects (due to nonlocal terms) that make the proof more complicated than would otherwise be the case.
