The authors consider three-dimensional systems of the form \[ \begin{aligned} &\dot x = -y+F_1(x,y,z), \\ &\dot y =x+F_2(x,y,z), \\ &\dot z = \lambda z+F_3(x,y,z), \end{aligned} \] where \(\lambda\neq 0\) and \(F=(F_1,F_2,F_3):U\subset\mathbb R^3\rightarrow \mathbb R^3\) is real analytic on an open neighborhood \(U\subset \mathbb R^3\) of the origin with \(F(0)=0\), \(DF(0)=0\). They explore how the nature of the singularity of the associated vector field \(\mathcal X\) restricted to the center manifold is related to the Lie symmetries of \(\mathcal X\). The main result discusses how the existence of an analytic normalization for \(\mathcal X\) is reflected in the centralizer of \(\mathcal X\). They also show how the focus and center cases are distinguished by the dimensions of the set of formal centralizers.
