Let \(X=L_ p[a,b]\) (1\(\leq p\leq \infty)\) and w a ``weight'' (a continuous and locally positive function in [a,b]). Let \(W^ k_ p(w)\) (k\(\in N)\) be the set of all functions which are locally absolutely continuous together with \(g'...g^{(k-1)}\) and \(\| w^ kg^{(k)}\|_ p<\infty\). The weighted Peetre K-functional for the function f is given by \[ K(t^ k,f)=\inf \{\| f-g\|_ p+t^ k\| w^ kg^{(k)}\|_ p;\quad g\in W^ k_ p(w)\}. \] This functional is useful in the characterization of many approximating processes, but the evaluation of the above infimum is rather difficult. Fortunately, the K- functionals are equivalent to other moduli of smoothness which are easier to compute (see e.g. \textit{Z. Ditzian} and \textit{V. Totik}, Moduli of smoothness, (1987; Zbl 0666.41001). Here it is shown that in many cases K-functionals are equivalent to moduli of smoothness introduced by the author in \textit{K. G. Ivanov} [C.R. Acad. Bulg. Sci. 33, 1309-1312 (1980; Zbl 0458.41020)].
