The main purpose of the paper under review is to investigate the existence of a Riemannian metric on the 2D torus which admits irreducible Killing tensor fields of rank \(m\geq 3\). In the first part of the paper, the author obtains some necessary and sufficient conditions of nonlocal nature on the metric for the existence of a rank-\(m\) irreducible Killing tensor field. As a corollary, a negative answer to the above question is obtained for many specific metrics. The last part of the paper is focussed on the case \(m=3\). In this setting, the author derives some new necessary conditions related to the behavior of isolines of the Gaussian curvature.
