Using the classification of the finite simple groups the author solves affirmatively the following two problems from ``Kourovka notebook. Unsolved problems in group theory'' [Transl., II. Ser., Am. Math. Soc. (1983; Zbl 0512.20001)]: 4.21 Let G be a finite group, p an odd prime number, and P a Sylow p- subgroup of G. Let the order of every nonidentity normal subgroup of G be divisible by p. Suppose P has an element x which is conjugate with no other from P. Does x belong to the center of G? (G. Glauberman.) 6.42. Suppose H is a strongly p-embedded subgroup of a finite group G. Assume \(Z(H/O_ p(H))\) contains an element of order p. Does \(Z(G/O_ p(G))\) contain an element of order p? (N. D. Podufalov.) Problem 4.21. was also solved by \textit{O. D. Artemovich} [Ukr. Mat. Zh. 40, No.3, 397-400 (1988; Zbl 0662.20016)].
