The authors consider the second-order quasilinear equation in three independent variables \((1)\quad \sum_{j}D_ j[\rho (x,u,\nabla u)D_ ju]=0,\) \(j=1,2,3\), on the semi-infinite cylinder \(R=S\times (0,\infty)\), where S is a simply-connected domain in \(R^ 2\) and \(\rho\) satisfies certain growth conditions which, in general, do not imply the ellipticity of (1). They assume the existence of a classical solution u to the Dirichlet b.v.p. for (1) with the boundary conditions \(u=0\) on \(\partial S\times (0,\infty)\), \(u=f\) on S and \(u,D_ 3u\to 0\) as \(x_ 3\to \infty\) uniformly in \(x_ 1,x_ 2\), and for this solution they prove exponential decay of the energy integral and, as a consequence, explicit exponential decay estimates for \(L_ 2\)-norm of u.
