The well-known Miquel configuration \textbf{M0} on eight points in a Laguerre plane characterises those Laguerre planes that are isomorphic to chain geometries obtained from unitary local algebras of rank 2 over commutative fields. Various variations of Miquel's configuration in which some of the points are equal or parallel have been studied. Many of these variations are known to be equivalent to \textbf{M0} [see \textit{H.-J. Samaga}, J. Geom. 41, 157-161 (1991; Zbl 0733.51005)]. However, \textit{N. Knarr} [Arch. Math. 78, 162-165 (2002; Zbl 1004.51005)] showed that one particular degeneration, \textbf{M2}, characterises elation Laguerre planes. In the paper under review the author systematically investigates all possible degenerations of Miquel's configuration that contain seven or eight distinct points, some of which may be parallel. He shows that all of these degenerations except \textbf{M2} eventually imply \textbf{M0} and thus lead to the miquelian Laguerre plane.
