In this paper, the author continues his important contributions to the theory of boundary behaviour of conformal maps. Let f map the unit disk conformally onto a Jordan domain; this restriction is made only for convenience. Let E be a Borel set on \(\{| z| =1\}\). The basic problem is to give lower estimates on the Hausdorff dimension of the image set f(E) on the Jordan curve in terms of the Hausdorff dimension of E. One basic tool is to study the growth of \(| f'(re^{it})|\) as \(r\to 1\) outside an exceptional set. In this review, it is only possible to mention a few of the many interesting results. The Hausdorff dimension is defined by \[ \dim A=\inf \{\alpha: A\quad has\quad zero\quad \alpha -Hausdorff\quad measure\}. \] Here are the main results: Let \(p=\dim E\). Then \[ \dim f(E)\geq d(p)\quad >\quad p/2\quad for\quad 0<p<1, \] \[ d(p)\quad \sim \quad p/2\quad (p\to 0),\quad d(p) = 1-O((1-p)^{1/2})\quad (p\to 1). \] The proofs use, for instance, a theorem of Pfluger on the logarithmic capacity and a method of Carleson.
