The authors use the Schoen-Yau-Gromov-Lawson surgery theorem to construct metrics of positive scalar curvature. Let \(Y^{n-1}\) be a compact minimal isoparametric hypersurface in the sphere \(S^n\) of radius \(1\) for \(n\geq 3\) which separates the sphere into manifolds \(S_\pm^n\). The authors prove: Theorem. The doubles \(D(S_\pm^n)\) {\parindent=0.5cm\begin{itemize}\item[1.] admit metrics of positive scalar curvature; \item[2.] have an isoparametric foliation; \item[3.] are stably parallizable manifolds; \item[4.] have vanishing Stiefel-Whitney and Pontrjagin classes; \item[5.] have vanishing \(KO\) characteristic numbers \(\alpha(\cdot)\). \end{itemize}} The authors also discuss the Ferus-Karcher-Münzner type of these manifolds and construct examples where \(D(S^n_-)(m,l,q_1)\) and \(D(S^n_-)(m,l,q_2)\) are of different homotopy type where \(p\) is an odd prime and where \(q_1\not\equiv\pm q_2\) mod \(p\).
