First, the problem of the existence and uniqueness of maps \((K,C) \to {\mathcal A} (K,C)\) which are pre-openings with respect to \(K\) and openings with respect to \(C\) is studied. Next, characterizations of viability (or invariance) kernels and capture (or absorption) basins (as either the largest or smallest fixed points or unique minimax of suitably defined maps on pairs of subsets) are presented. Moreover, the Matheron theorem and the Galois transformation find application by providing alternate characterizations of the viability (or invariance) kernels and capture (or absorption) basins under discrete systems or discriminating kernels under dynamical games. The algebraic nature of the viability kernel and capture basin algorithms as well as of the discriminating kernel algorithm is also shown.
