Let \(A=U|A|\) be the polar decomposition of a matrix \(A\). It is well known that \(A\) is normal if and only if \(U|A|=|A|U\). \textit{F. Kittaneh} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 130, No. 5, 1279--1283 (2002; Zbl 0992.15020)] proved another version of this result by showing that \[ \big|\!\big|\!\big|| U|A|-|A|U|^2\big|\!\big|\!\big|\leq\big|\!\big|\!\big|A^*A-AA^*\big|\!\big|\!\big|\leq\big\|U|A|+|A|U\big\|\cdot\big|\!\big|\!\big|U|A|-|A|U\big|\!\big|\!\big|, \] where \(|\!|\!|\cdot|\!|\!|\) is a unitarily invariant norm and \(\|\cdot\|\) is the operator norm. In the present work, the author proves some similar results for \(\tau\)-measurable operators, where \(\tau\) is a faithful normal semi-finite trace on a finite von Neumann algebra \(\mathcal{M}\).
