The authors study orthogonal polynomials and Christoffel functions for even weights that are close to indeterminate weights, that is, weights that behave roughly like \(\exp(-| x | ^{\alpha})\) for some \(\alpha \leq 1\). The class under consideration is the so called class of slow Freud weights, and the main example is \(\exp(-| x | ( \log| x |)^{\beta})\), with \(\beta\) real, possibly modified near \(0\). Assuming that the weight \(\omega\) belongs to the class of slow Freud weights, they obtain upper bounds for Christoffel functions and they construct polynomials that, in some sense, approximate \(\omega^{-1}\). The method used for this last result is based in the discretization of the potential. Very interesting estimates of the Christoffel function are given for the main example. Finally, the bounds for the Christoffel functions allow to estimate spacing between successive zeros of the orthogonal polynomials and they also state some bounds on orthogonal polynomials.
