The Dixmier trace of a non-negative self-adjoint linear operator \(\Delta\) can be defined as \(\lim_{N\to\infty}{1\over \log N}\sum_{i=0}^N \mu_i\), where \(\mu_i\) are eigenvalues of \(\Delta\). A (simplest version of) zeta function of \(\Delta\) can be written as \(\zeta_{\Delta}(s)=Tr~(\Delta^{-s})\), where \(Tr\) is the usual trace of a linear operator. The paper under review concerns an interplay between the Dixmier trace of \(\Delta\) and the residue of \(\zeta_{\Delta}(s)\) at the point \(s=1\). The main result is a significant generalization of the known fact that if the residue exists, then it is equal to the Dixmier trace. In particular, the result allows to develop an integration theory of the non-unital spectral triples.
