This paper brings together homological properties of a \(k\)-graph and crossed products by a single automorphism of the given \(k\)-graph. The motivation for the present work comes from the following: If \(\Lambda\) is a \(k\)-graph and \(\beta\) an automorphism of \(\Lambda\), then the resulting crossed product \(C^*(\Lambda)\rtimes_\beta \mathbb{Z}\) is isomorphic to the \(C^*\)-algebra associated to the \((k+1)\)-graph \(\Lambda\times_\beta \mathbb{Z}\), cf. [\textit{C. Farthing} et al., Houston J. Math. 35, No. 3, 903--933 (2009; Zbl 1186.46056)]. The authors explore a version of this isomorphism in the context of twisted \(k\)-graphs. \textit{A. Kumjian} et al. introduced two cohomology theories for \(k\)-graphs, cf. [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 363, No. 5, 2599--2626 (2011; Zbl 1222.46041); J. Funct. Anal. 263, No. 6, 1539--1574 (2012; Zbl 1253.55006)], and for their categorical homology theory they established a long exact sequence in homology. In the paper under review, an analogous long exact sequence in homology is provided in the cubical context. With this at hand, the authors are able to generalise the isomorphism result of Farthing et al. [loc. cit.]. Explicitly, if the \((k+1)\)-graph is twisted by a 2-cocycle \(\varphi\), then the twisted graph \(C^*\)-algebra \(C^*_\varphi(\Lambda\times_\beta \mathbb{Z})\) is isomorphic to the crossed product of a twisted version of \(C^*(\Lambda)\), with twist determined by restriction of \(\varphi\), by an automorphism associated to \(\beta\) and \(\varphi\). Applications are given to the following three cases: the class of the restriction of \(\varphi\) is trivial; there is a 2-cocycle on \(\Lambda\) with cohomology class is left invariant by \(\beta\); and finally the case that \(\beta\) is the trivial automorphism. The final section provides examples of twisted \(k\)-graph algebras obtained by the present construction and which turn out to be covered by classification results.
