The author presents an overview of the modern approaches to continuum nonequilibrium thermodynamics from the perspective of their connection with the problem of heat conduction with finite speed. Cattaneo and Guyer-Krumhansl equations for the evolution of the heat flux and are described and compared. Different theories and a discussion of future perspectives in non-equilibrium thermodynamics were presented. It is worth to emphasize that it is a good review of the theory of the heat equation with finite speed.
