Let \({\mathcal A}_1\) and \({\mathcal A}_2\) be two standard operator algebras on complex Banach spaces \(X_1\) and \(X_2\). For a bounded linear operator \(T\) on \(X_1\), let \(\sigma(T)\) and \(r(T)\) denote its spectrum and its spectral radius, and denote by \[ \sigma_\pi(T)=\{z\in\mathbb{C}:|z|=r(T)\} \] its peripheral spectrum. Fix a positive integer \(k\) and a finite sequence \(\{i_1,i_2,\dots, i_m\}\) of positive integers not necessarily distinct such that \(\{i_1,i_2,\dots, i_m\}=\{1,2,\dots,k\}.\) Among other results, the authors describe maps \(\phi\) between \({\mathcal A}_1\) and \({\mathcal A}_2\) for which the range contains all operators of rank at most \(2\) and which satisfy \[ \sigma_\pi\left(T_{i_1}T_{i_2}\dots T_{i_m}\right)=\sigma_\pi\left(\phi(T_{i_1})\phi(T_{i_2})\dots \phi(T_{i_m})\right) \] for all \(T_1,T_2,\dots,T_k\in{\mathcal A}_1.\) This result extends and generalizes previous results on nonlinear spectrum preservers existing in the literature.
