The authors present two splitting finite-difference time-domain schemes on a staggered grid for solving Maxwell's equations in two dimensions. The schemes consist of two stages for each time step, which are simpler in computation as compared with usual 2D-ADI-FDTD schemes. By the discrete energy method, the schemes are shown to be unconditionally stable and convergent for the problems with perfectly conducting boundary conditions. Also, the dispersion and dissipation of the schemes are analyzed. Numerical dispersion analysis and numerical experiments are presented to show the efficient performance of the proposed schemes. Finally, the schemes are tested by solving a scattering problem.
