Let \(H\) be a Hilbert space with the basis \(({\mathfrak e}_k )_{k\in \mathbb{Z}}\). Let \[ m_0 (\theta)= {1\over {\sqrt {2}}} \sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}} h_k e^{ik \theta}\in C^\infty (\mathbb{R}, \mathbb{C}), \qquad m_1 (\theta)= {1\over {\sqrt {2}}} \sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}} g_k e^{ik\theta}= e^{-i\theta} \overline {m_0 (\theta+ \pi)}. \] Assume that \(m_0 (0)= 1\), \(m_0 (\theta) \neq 0\) for \(|\theta|\leq \pi/2\), \(|m_0 (\theta) |^2+ |m_0 (\theta+ \pi)|^2 =1\), and put \({\mathfrak e}^0_k= \sum_{\ell\in \mathbb{Z}} h_{2k- \ell} {\mathfrak e}_\ell\), \({\mathfrak e}_k^1= \sum_{\ell\in \mathbb{Z}} g_{2k- \ell} {\mathfrak e}_\ell\). The sequences \(\{{\mathfrak e}^0_k \}\) and \(\{{\mathfrak e}_k^1\}\) constitute bases in the orthogonal subspaces \(H^0\) and \(H^1\), respectively, such that \(H= H^0 \oplus H^1\). One can associate \(H\), \(H^0\), \(H^1\) with \([0, 1]\), \([0, 1/2]\) and \([1/2, 1]\), respectively. This association gives rise to correspondence between dyadic intervals \(I\subset [0, 1]\) and a family \(\{H_I \}\) of Hilbert spaces such that \(H= \oplus_I H_I\). The following conjecture of Y. Meyer has been proved. Theorem. There exists a continuous probability measure \(d\sigma\) on \([0, 1]\) and an isometrical isomorphism \(J: H\to L^2 ([0, 1]; d\sigma)\) with the property: If \(J(x) =f\), then \(J(\pi_I (x))= f\chi_I\), where \(\chi_I\) is a characteristic function of \(I\) and \(\pi_I: H\to H_I\) is an orthonormal projection.
