Suppose that \(\Gamma\) is a \({\mathcal C}^{\infty}\) smooth maximal totally real submanifold of \({\mathbb{C}}^{\infty}\). If f is a holomorphic mapping of the upper half disc \(U_+\) in the plane, which extends continuously to the real axis and which maps the real axis into \(\Gamma\), then f extends \({\mathcal C}^{\infty}\) smoothly up to the real axis. Also, f cannot be flat at a point on the real axis unless f is constant.
