The main result of the article under review is the existence of a weak solution for a system of three partial differential equations describing the erythropoiesis process. This is the process in which red blood cells are developed. The fact that these cells have many stages of development leads to an age-structured model, which takes into account the number of precursor cells, of mature cells and the concentration of the hormone erythtopoietin. After defining the notion of weak solution, as well as those of upper and lower solutions, the authors construct monotone sequences of coupled upper and lower solutions, which converge to the weak solution of the model. An uniqueness result is also proven.
