The authors study the following abstract version of the stationary one- dimensional transport equation: \[ d(Tf)/d\bar{\bar x}=-(Af)(\bar{\bar x}),\quad 0<\bar{\bar x}<+\infty;\quad (Q_+f)(0)=f_+, \] where T, A are self-adjoint operators on a Hilbert space and \(Q_+\) is maximal positive projection associated with T. They announce an existence and uniqueness theory which covers many interesting particular cases.
