All spaces \(X\) are assumed to be Tychonoff. For a space \(X\), the remainder \(\beta X\setminus X\) is denoted by \(X^*.\) The space \(X\) is called almost compact if \(X^*\) is at most a singleton. The authors study properties of pseudocompact spaces \(X\) with weak (continuous) selections. In particular special attention is paid to the weak selection topologies on \(X.\) Among other things it is shown that for a space \(X\) with a continuous weak selection the following are equivalent: (a) \(X\) is locally compact and pseudocompact; (b) \(X\) is a finite topological sum of the form \((\oplus_{i=1}^k A_i)\oplus (\oplus_{j=1}^m B_j),\) where \(A_i\) and \(B_j\) are clopen sets of \(X\) such that each \(A_i\) is almost compact and each \(B_j\) is connected with \(| B_j^*| =2.\)
