For a given algebraic theory \(\mathbb{T}\) whose category of models is semi-abelian, the authors study the category \({\mathbf {Top}}^\mathbb{T}\) of topological models of \(\mathbb{T}\) (that is, models of the theory provided with a topology which makes all the operations of the theory continuous). They generalize to it many classical results on topological groups. In particular, the category \({\mathbf {Top}}^\mathbb{T}\) is homological (that is, a Barr regular category with zero object in which the short five lemma holds), complete and cocomplete. Every open subalgebra is closed and every quotient map is open. Special attention is devoted to the Hausdorff, compact, locally compact, connected, totally disconnected and profinite (= compact totally disconnected) \(\mathbb{T}\)-algebras.
