A short proof to the next Opial-type integral inequality due to \textit{G. S. Yang} [Proc. Japan Acad. 42, 78-83 (1966; Zbl 0151.052)] is given in the note: If the function \(f\) is absolutely continuous on \([0,b]\) with \(f(0) = 0\), then for \(p>0\) and \(q \geq 1\) we have \[ \int^ b_ 0 \bigl | f(x) \bigr |^ p \bigl | f' (x) \bigr |^ q dx \leq {qb^ p \over p+q} \int^ b_ 0 \bigl | f' (x) \bigr |^{p+q} dx. \] The new proof is based on the application of an auxiliary function of the form \[ F(t) : = {qt^ p \over p + q} \int^ t_ 0 \bigl | f' (x) \bigr |^{p + q} dx -\int^ t_ 0 \bigl | f(x) \bigr |^ p \bigl | f'(x) \bigr |^ qdx. \] To obtain the desired conclusion \(F(b) \geq 0\), the author used the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality and the Hölder inequality.
