Motivated by the recent surge of interest in matrix-valued polynomials in optimization, the author of the paper under review considers positivity of matrix-valued polynomials in commuting variables. His main result is a generalization of Krivine's Positivstellensatz from real algebraic geometry and the proof is a slick application of Schur complements.
