The Cauchy problem, \(u_t+ (u^q)_x- (u^m)_{xx}= 0\), with a nonnegative initial data in \(L^1(\mathbb{R})\) is studied when \(q\in (0,1)\) and \(m\geq 1\). The author derives temporal decay estimates for the solutions. He proves that the long-time profile in \(L^1(\mathbb{R})\) of these solutions is given by the unique nonnegative entropy source-type solution to the conservation law, \(u_t+ (u^q)_x= 0\), with the same mass. These results extend previous results obtained for the case \(q> 1\) and \(m\geq 1\).
