The author studies locally strongly convex hypersurfaces in real affine space satisfying the following two conditions: (i) the equiaffine metric is flat; (ii) the affine shape operator admits an eigenvalue \(\lambda\) such that the eigenspace \(E_ \lambda\) satisfies \(\dim E_ \lambda\geq(n-1)\). This class of hypersurfaces is called quasi umbilical and includes in particular all affine spheres. The author gives a complete classification of this class.
