Given an analytically finite Riemann surface (of hyperbolic type) \(S\) we have associated to it the minimal hyperbolic length of its closed geodesics, called the systole of \(S\). In this way, a map from the Teichmüller space of \(S\) is defined, the systole. In this paper the author proves that such a function is in fact a topological Morse function.
