The book is devoted to a special class of linear-quadratic optimal control problems governed by partial differential equations where the spatial reference domain \(\Omega\) consists of two distinct parts \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\) and on the nonempty interface \(\Gamma\) between \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\) nonstandard conjugation conditions are imposed. As a simple characteristic sample one can consider the case of a linear elliptic equation \[ \text{div}[A(x)\nabla y(x)]= u_0(x),\quad x\in\Omega= \Omega_1\cup \Omega_2 \] with \(\Omega_1= (-1,0)\times (0,1)\subset\mathbb{R}^2\), \(\Omega_2= (0,1)\times (0,1)\in \mathbb{R}^2\) and the conjugate conditions \[ a{\partial y^-\over\partial v}+ b{\partial y^+\over\partial v}= y^+- y^-+ g_1+ u_1,\quad {\partial y^+\over\partial v}- {\partial y^-\over\partial v}= g_2+ u_2 \] on the interface \(\Gamma= \{0\}\times (0,1)\) between \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\). Here \({\partial y\over\partial v}\) denotes the conormal derivate of the state \(y\), upper indexes \(+\) and \(-\) denote the limit of the corresponding function from the right and the left side of \(\Gamma\), respectively, and \(u_0\), \(u_1\), \(u_2\) play the role of controls. The cost functional is defined as a coercive quadratic from on the space of pairs (state, control). Together with the case of elliptic equations the book considers problems of the mentioned above type for parabolic, hyperbolic, pseudoparabolic and pseudohyperbolic equations with nonstandard conjugation conditions. Every case has the following line of studying: statement of the problem, definition of the generalized solution, proof of the existence of a generalized solution and its uniqueness, derivation of necessary optimality conditions and the solvability of the optimality system. Overall, the book gives a clear enough understanding of properties of optimal control problems for the basic cases of nonstandard conjugation conditions (including controls) on the interface between two domains.
