A determinantal Cremona transformation \(F\) of the projective space \({\mathbb P}^n\) is, by definition, a birational map of degree \(n\) of \({\mathbb P}^n\) given by the maximal minors of a \((n+1) \times n\) matrix with general linear forms as entries. These transformations have been object of classical studies. An important invariant of a Cremona transformation, classically called the ``type'' of the transformation, consists of its sequence of multidegrees, which are given by the degrees of the direct strict transforms of general linear subspaces of the various dimensions. The goal of the paper under review is to compute the multidegrees of such \(F\), as well as the Segre class of its subscheme of indeterminacy. This is done by reducing, via a flat degeneration, to the case of a standard Cremona transformation, where methods of toric geometry can be applied.
