An affine structure on a smooth manifold is an atlas consisting of affine transformations, or equivalently a torsion-free connection in the tangent bundle. The total space of the tangent bundle of an affine manifold \(M\) is naturally an affine manifold itself, and its tangent bundle \(\mathrm{T}\mathrm{T}M\) splits into the direct sum of the vertical distribution and a horizontal integrable distribution corresponding to parallel vector fields on the base. This splitting allows one to define an almost complex structure \(J\) on \(\mathrm{T}M\). When \(M\) is endowed with a Riemannian metric, the flat connection also defines a lift of the Riemannian metric to the total space \(\mathrm{T}M\), where it is compatible with \(J\). In this nice paper, the author studies the sequence of almost-complex Hermitian structures obtained by iterating the above construction, and gives various sufficient conditions for them to be Kähler or to fall into one of the generalizations of the Kähler condition: Vaisman, locally conformally Kähler, balanced, locally conformally balanced, pluriclosed, or Gauduchon.
