A bowtie consists of a pair of triangle graphs with one common vertex, but no common edges. A 2-fold bowtie system of order n is a decomposition of \(2K_n\) into bowties; such a system is called 2-perfect if each pair of vertices is joined by two paths of length 2 within the bowties, and extra 2-perfect if these two paths always have different midpoints. The authors show that the conditions \(v \equiv 0\) or \(1 \pmod 3\) and \(v \geq 6\) are both necessary and sufficient for existence of an extra 2-perfect 2-fold bowtie system of order \(v\). They also show that the set of values for which there exists an extra 2-perfect decomposition of \(2(K_v - K_2)\) into bowties is \(\{v: v \equiv 2 \pmod 3,\;v \geq 8\}\).
