The motivation of this paper comes from the algebraic or matrix formalism of finite quantum systems. Quasi-orthogonal subalgebras of \(M_4(\mathbb C)\) isomorphic to \(M_2(\mathbb C)\) are studied. Section 3 contains the main results. It is proved that if four such subalgebras are given, then their orthogonal complement is always a commutative subalgebra. Section 4 presents possible extension. A conjecture is made about the maximal number of pairwise quasi-orthogonal subalgebras of \(M_{2^n}(\mathbb C)\).
