In this note, the author investigates a nonstandard problem in the context of several thermomechanical theories such as thermoelasticity and viscoelasticity. The aim of this work is to point out a possibly unified way to treat these problems by means of the semigroup theory of linear operators. The techniques of mild solutions are used to obtain continuous dependence estimates, uniqueness and existence of solutions. Some comments are presented on nonexistence and nonuniqueness of solutions.
