    An additive mapping \(D\) on a ring \(R\) is said to be a left (right) generalized derivation if there exists a derivation \(d\) on \(R\) such that \[ D(xy) = D(x)y + xd(y)(D(xy) = xD(y) + d(x)y) \] for all \(x,y \in R\). Previous work on left and right generalized derivations has been done in the setting of semiprime rings, and this work is reviewed in the introduction. For the rest of this review a right generalized derivation will be called a generalized derivation. The goal of the paper under review is to investigate generalized derivations on rings that are not semiprime. To this end the authors define a ring \(L_0^{\infty}(\mathfrak{A})^{\ast}\) that is not semiprime. Results on \(L_0^{\infty}(\mathfrak{A})^{\ast}\) are then given concerning \(k\)-centralizing generalized derivations, \(k\)-skew centralizing generalized derivations, orthogonality of generalized derivations and the Singer-Wermer conjecture. As an application of their results the authors show that if \(G\) is a locally compact abelian group, the Banach algebra of all \(k\)-skew centralizing generalized derivations of \(L_0^{\infty} (G)^{\ast}\) is isometrically isomorphic to \(L^1(G)\).
