It is shown that for open convex \(G \subset \mathbb R^d\), \(d > 1\), the kernel of \(P(D)\) in \(C^\infty(G)\) does not have property \((\overline{\overline \Omega})\). This property was introduced in [\textit{D.~Vogt}, J.~Reine Angew.\ Math.\ 345, 182--200 (1983; Zbl 0514.46003)]. The paper under review contains a list of recent articles in which \((\overline{\overline \Omega})\) was used to investigate the behavior of linear operators which are defined on spaces of real analytic functions. One theorem in this direction by the same author can be found in [Bull.\ Soc.\ R. Sci.\ Liège 73, No.~2--3, 155--170 (2004; Zbl 1094.46043)]. For the proof, property \((\overline{\overline \Omega})\) for the kernel of \(P(D)\) is first rephrased as a very special Phragmén--Lindelöf condition on the variety of~\(P\). It is then shown that such a Phragmén--Lindelöf condition can never hold. In a similar way, it is shown that, in the case \(G = \mathbb R^d\), even property \((\overline \Omega)\) cannot occur, although it is much less restrictive than \((\overline{\overline \Omega})\).
