The paper discusses the reconstruction of a metric from its unparametrized geodesics. It shows how to decide whether all curves from a sufficiently large family are unparametrized geodesics of a certain affine connection and how to reconstruct algorithmically a generic 4-dimensional metric from its unparametrized geodesics. The algorithm works most efficiently if the metric is Ricci-flat. The author proves also that almost every metric does not allow nontrivial geodesic equivalence and constructs all pairs of 4-dimensional equivalent metrics of Lorentz signature.
