    The authors study the entropy solutions \(u=u(t,x)\) to a strictly hyperbolic, genuinely nonlinear system of conservation laws \[ u_t+f(u)_x=0, \quad u|_{t=0}=\bar u\in BV(\mathbb R,\mathbb R^N). \] The initial function \(\bar u\) is assumed to be small in BV. The main result of the paper is the property of spatial SBV regularity of \(u(t,x)\) (this means that the distributional derivative \(u_x\) is a measure with no Cantorian part) except of an at most countable set of times \(t\).
