    This is a translation of a book in Portuguese published in 1983. In the Zentralblatt review of the Portuguese version [Monogr. Mat. 37, Rio de Janeiro, Inst. Mat. Pura Apl. (1983; Zbl 0538.53001)] the reviewer wrote: ``If this book (consisting of few pages) were written in English it would be one of the books more used as a first course in differential geometry''. The present English version omits a chapter on the Frobenius theorem, but introduces a new chapter on line integrals. The table of contents of this version consists of the following six chapters: Differential forms in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\). Line integrals. Differentiable manifolds. Integration on manifolds; Stokes theorem and Poincaré's lemma. Differential geometry of surfaces. The theorem of Gauss-Bonnet and the theorem of Morse. There is a list of problems at the end of each chapter.
