By using classical results for the Jacobi and related polynomials the authors derive a variety of bilinear, bilateral or mixed multilateral generating functions for them. The obtained results can the compared with similar identities, which have been studied previously by other authors with the so-called Weisner's Lie algebraic method. Recalling some familiar generating functions for the extended Jacobi polynomials the authors demonstrate them as equivalent and provide a method to obtain numerous other generating functions involving these polynomials. The known Bailey formula for generating functions for the classical Jacobi polynomials is generalized for the extended polynomials and it involves the Lauricella function. Finally the set of nine families of generating functions is given.
