Simplified regularization in the setting of Hilbert scales has been considered for obtaining stable approximate solutions for ill-posed linear operator equations. In order to choose the regularization parameter the authors propose parameter choice strategies which are a priori and a posteriori. It is shown that these strategies lead to optimal error estimates in the sence of ``best possible worst error''.
