The aim of this interesting note is to show how approximations of topological spaces by finite or locally finite topological spaces might lead to structures which are useful to describe models which are of interest in physics. First by taking suitable finite open covers finite \(T_ 0\)-spaces are associated with a given topological space. Then the relation of finite or locally finite \(T_ 0\)-spaces with posets is exhibited. Finally the problem is discussed how a given topological space can be reobtained from finite or locally finite approximations as an inverse limit. The main value of this paper lies in its attempt to connect topological considerations with applications to theoretical physics.
