The existence of perfect matchings in a hexagonal system is of chemical relevance since this characterizes the skeleton of benzenoid hydrocarbon molecule. The authors present in this paper some simple and efficient conditions that are necessary and sufficient for a hexagonal system to have a perfect matching.
